Breakfast At Tacodeli: Doggone Good

Photographed early morning at Tacodeli (the central branch), last month.

Tacodeli is a local taco place, serving breakfast and lunch.

For those unfamiliar with the breakfast taco, it is a bit of scrambled egg et cetera tucked into a small soft tortilla.  I prefer the corn tortillas.

The breakfast tacos are terrific, and so is the crowd, especially on the patio.

Snow's: The Best Barbecue I've Tasted

Last Saturday, we were introduced to Snow's BBQ.  Snow's is open Saturday mornings, only.

This is the drill:  Saturday morning, you make your way to Lexington, Texas (about an hour or so from Austin by car), timing your arrival between 8 am and 9:30 am.

This is a friendly place, run by nice people.  The "Snow" in Snow's is Kerry Bexley, who can fill you in on the history of the place and tell about the folks behind the food you're eating.

The barbecue is the best I've ever had.  By a large margin.  (I'm not a bbq expert and have not made an exhaustive study of bbq, so it's always possible that there's something out there that would top it.)  Someone who is something of an expert, Calvin Trillin, has written about Snow's, delightfully:  "By Meat Alone," in the New Yorker.

The woman cooking the meats (pit boss) is Miss Tootsie, who is in her eighth decade.  I hope she is training an apprentice, to continue, when she finally decides she's done with bbq-ing.
